Ribby Hall Triathlon

This was the second of my three April events, and what a difference a week makes. Although quite cold, we were treated to a bright and still Sunday morning at Ribby Hall.

I arrived early, as usual, registered, and then spent some time planning how to get in and out of transition. Although I was positioned adjacent to bike out, there was a long rack along the middle of transition and I observed quite a few people struggling to find the way out. I then clarified with the marshal which speed bumps were the mount and dismount lines, warmed up, and headed to the pool for the race start.

The swim went without incident, albeit setting off about 20mins later than scheduled. Into transition, feeling the cold, I made a decision to put on an extra layer, which in hindsight was the wrong decision, and cost me time putting it on in T1 and then time in T2 taking it off.

However, you live and learn, and it made for a funny photo of me in what my family have called my “aero hoodie”.

The bike route is fast and flat, and the still, dry conditions made quite a contrast to the conditions I’d experienced at Skipton the week before. Everything was going according to plan, until I had to come to a complete standstill about half way around the course whilst me and another rider waited for a tractor to reverse out of a field and do a U-turn across the road. Very annoying, and it felt like it took forever!!

Back into T2, off with “aero hoodie” and out onto the 5km, 2 lap run around Ribby Hall holiday park.

I set out on the run feeling really good, and passed a quite few people before having a sprint race to the line with a guy who’d been just behind me for about the last 500m, which was fun.

I finished 9th female overall, in a time of 1hr 08mins, which I was reasonably happy with, bearing everything in mind.

So, next up is Stockton Standard Distance Duathlon on Sunday with NO hoodie! (Wendy Drake)
