Last weekend, aspiring 13 year old triathlete Blythe Fourie competed in the Lancashire under 15 girls XC Championships held at Witton Park, Blackburn. The top 8 finishers represent Lancashire at the National Championships in Birmingham, so everyone was keen to put in a good performance.
At the moment Blythe is concentrating on her swimming so there’s very little running in her schedule, but as running is her ‘preferred’ discipline, that general fitness is always there to call on. Call on it she did. After briefly talking about how we’d like her to run it, she warmed up and headed to the start line. In the space of about 4 months Blythe’s developed a ‘beyond her years’ capacity for pacing. This enables her to predominantly run her own race, but still compete for honours. This obviously bodes very well for when the triathlon season starts in May.
Well done to all the competitors and good luck to the Lancashire team in Birmingham
