It’s Sunday 27th April and we have perfect weather for the Kendal Sprint Triathlon; sunny and warm. Having arrived in plenty of time I organised my transitions making sure I knew where all the in’s and out’s were. I was feeling relaxed, excited and looking forward to racing today.
In the water I concentrated on having a smooth and steady swim. There was one other girl in my lane and she was a faster swimmer than me – I remained, however, focused on my own performance. This set me up nicely to have a strong bike leg. T1 was quick and controlled which is pleasing and it didn’t take long for me to settle into the bike. By remaining controlled and smooth, with good gearing, I was able to pass a number of girls on the course and by the time I returned to T2 I felt good. I set out on the run feeling comfortable, pacing it well in preparation for the climb in the middle. At the top of the hill there was a reasonable decent back to transition which felt great as I was now in (what felt like) full flow.
Throughout the race I was relaxed, focused and feeling strong and as a result of this I was very happy throughout. It was made extra special by having a couple of great supporters too.
I had a good finish running over the line in 4th place overall (female) and winning my age category.
A perfect Sunday… (Victoria Kollard)
