Sunday 17th June saw the 1st Southport Triathlon for many years. Race organiser Rob Macleod of Vital Events did a great job and ensured it was a successful resurrection. Racepace coaches Rodger Wilkins and Alan Copland were both involved in the running of the event, after recent bad weather we were all optimistic for this to change on race day! Our luck was in and the race got under way in relatively pleasant conditions.
The race consisted of a swim of 750m around the island of the marine lake, onto a 22km bike leg – made difficult by strong cross winds and finally a 5km run around the marine lake. Competing for Racepace was Sarah Black, who was there bright and early ready for her 4th race of the season.
After looking at the start list, Sarah knew there was going to be some stiff competition from the likes of Vicky Wade and Angela Jamieson. Sarah came a fantastic 4th overall in a time of 1.20.58 – just missing out on another podium! Vicky Wade took the overall win – congratulations to her. Consensus was that the race was a big success which was pleasing for all concerned. Sarah’s next race is her 1st Olympic of 2012 – the fabulous Chester Deva Triathlon on 1.7.12
