Sarah Black was in action last weekend in the European qualifier, the Rother Valley Sprint Triathlon.
A huge, stacked field meant competition was tough. Sarah’s main objective was to concentrate on her own race, before, during and after.
Sarah has made fantastic progress this year but the focus this season has been on how to race, and not necessarily where she finishes. After an energy sapping lead up to Bassenthwaite a few weeks ago, Sarah felt better prepared psychologically for this race.
With this seasons emphasis geared towards acquiring the capability to deliver her best performance on the day, Sarah felt she had managed to do this better than any other time to date and finished a superb 9th in her age-group. Confirmation of the qualifying places has yet to be determined though.
The learning curve Sarah’s had this season gives her a fantastic platform for next season, where the goal will be to qualify for the World-Age Group Championships in London. Now Sarah is confident in the complexities of how to race, focus can now shift onto the physiological side of things, in other words – structured, hard training.
