On Sunday 14th April Racepace athletes headed to the Ribble Valley for Epic Events, Clitheroe Triathlon.
The weather forecast was ‘interesting’ and early starters had very strong winds to contend with on the bike, later starters still had some wind but unfortunately driving rain too. The consolation was that the actual temperature was in double figures.
R.P.T.C* athletes Sarah Black, Wendy Drake and Marcus Sheridan were joined by R.G.S* athletes Jo White, and in their 1st triathlon Marc Mcloughin, Ben Slaven, and Robert Cassidy. After an informative race briefing the swim seemed relatively straight forward, but once out onto the bike it was anything but. A tough but fantastic bike course was made very ‘tricky’ on the day due to a number of factors (50ft of muck spreading across the road on a fast descent for one!). Pleasingly everyone got around safe and set off onto the 7km trail run. Even with the weather, the conditions under foot were fine, the L.T.R* athletes certainly benefited from them on this run course. A post race re-fuel at Clitheroe’s Emporium was a perfect way to round off a successful day for all. A big thank you to all the supporters and marshals who came along in bad weather to cheer everyone on – they really made a difference. Coach (who turned athlete for the day) Rodger Wilkins in his 1st triathlon since 2010 was very pleased with how everything turned out for everyone. Next Stop Horwich Triathlon on May 5th…
