Epic Events Clitheroe Triathlon took place yesterday from Ribblesdale Pool in the heart of the Ribble Valley.
The well established organisers had lots to contend with on the day though. The Bradley Wiggins sportive was due on the same bike route at roughly the same time which obviously was cause for concern. Fallen trees on the run course meant a last min change of route was also needed. A more detailed race briefing ensued so competitors knew exactly what was going on. With quick thinking and calling on vast experience Epic Events Marc Laithwaite made sure things ran as smoothly as possible for everyone.
In what is a beautiful location for a triathlon, hundreds of competitors turned out to tackle the 400m swim, 30km bike (including the tough climb over Jefferey Hill) and a fast 6km run by the river. Victoria Kollard was keen to put into practise things we’ve recently been working on. A perfectly executed race plan resulted in her best performance of the year. Victoria claimed a superb 5th overall female and 2nd in her catergory in 1.44.33. In contrast to Lakeland Triathlon, a very happy athlete/coach day….fantastic.
GBR athlete Maddy Winzer was 1st Lady home in an impresive time of 1.26.16 – not far off the overall win. That honour though went to Josh Hutchinson in a time of 1.24.15 – congratulations to both.
